I heard about Five Guys in Altamonte Springs, FL from my son. He thought they had some pretty good burgers and fries, so I decided to give it a try.
I got the bacon cheeseburger (all the way) with regular fries and a soft drink.
Cost me $10.03 with tax.
All the meals come in a brown paper bag whether you are eating in or taking it out. The longer you keep the fries (fried in peanut oil) in the paper bag, the paper bag gets greasier and greasier. I saw at least three people in their eighties in this store – though I’m not sure what that means. This relatively new store, which is large in square feet, was about half full when I left at 12:00 noon. They had a pretty good crowd.
The burger was excellent. The fries were so-so. I’d go back, but I’d curb my spending and just go for the cheeseburger and soft drink. Considering a five-day work week – 10 bucks is way too much to spend for lunch.
I was a little disappointed in the Five Guy’s Burger experience. I loved the burger but the fries were so greasy! I went through several napkins just patting the grease off of them! Yuck!
I agree. The burgers are tasty, but the fries could use a little more “meat” to them. At least they’re fresh!
Dad — I hate the fries! I never get them… But the burgers (although messy) are darn tasty.

My first Five Guys experience was in an eatery where I had got a chinese dish initially and my mate decided he wanted to try Five Guys. After much disappointment in fast food burgers I had a difficult time trying new places but after a bite of his burger I think I can say it was the best burger I’ve ever tasted. Besides the delicious beef I was sold on the fresh jalapenos and the bacon was actually crispy instead of chewy which also from previous experiences is hard to come by.
They’re fries didn’t seem too greasy to me unless my definition of greasy is off. I was pleased that they were fresh and was a nice alternative to the usually soggy, cardboard flavored fries that much fast food seems to serve.
Whoever the mastermind is behind Five Guys I raise a drink to you!
I happen to be a fan of the fries. But there is a secret to eating them.
You need to dump them out of the styrofoam cup immediately, and onto an opened up brown paper bag.
It accomplishes two things.
1) Prevents the fries from steaming in the cup and loosing their crisp exterior.
2) Allows some additional grease to be soaked up by the bag.
The downside to the technique is that the fries cool off faster. But it’s a tradeoff I am willing to make.
Maybe sometime you give it a shot, and see if it improves anything.
I love the picture of the brown bag soaking through with grease. It makes me want to run out and get a bag of my own.
I have a friend living in Orlando, I always talk about five guys. The first thing you will do as soon as it can go a visa and Orlando is going to eat with them .
